Beyond the bar: Calisthenics Kingz

From what started as an innovative street workout in a Bronx calisthenics bar park in 2007, ‘Calisthenics Kingz’ has grown into a solid brand in the body weight workout industry. Referring to themselves as “professional performance-based fitness training gurus”, the organisation was started by George ‘HIT’ Richards who, since it’s inception, has become a house-hold name amongst the street-workout community worldwide.

HIT: The Beginnings

HIT (nicknamed this by his clients because he was a ‘Hard Intense Trainer‘) was inspired by Bruce Lee at a young age. Initially he got into bodybuilding while also playing sports for most of his youth but it wasn’t until 1996 that HIT became familiar with calisthenics fitness and started with the basics (pull-ups, push-ups, dips & sits) until he mastered these body-weight exercises. From here he began pushing the limits of what his body could achieve. And yes, his physqiue is 100% from calisthenics exercises.

HIT Richards has an extensive resume with 14 certifications with IFPA (International Fitness Professionals Association) and he’s been working in the industry for over 10 years.

But it wasn’t until this videos of himself doing his calisthenics workouts hit Youtube back in 2007 that he exploded onto the virgin territory of the body-weight exercise scene – becoming one of the first globally recognised street-workout athletes and an example for new attainable heights in the once stagnant fitness arena of calisthenics workouts.

The Calisthenics Kingz (and queen)

Along the way HIT has joined forces with Hannibal Lanham (a.k.a “Hannibal For King“) and female calisthenics guru Kylie Johnston (a.k.a. Kyz), among many others. Over the years he has worked tirelessly to promote his brand ‘Calisthenics Kingz’, gaining a mass following on youtube, facebook and twitter. During this time he has developed countless body-weight training products including his “Chiseled In 30” home workout program as well as loads of DVD’s, books, clothing and calisthenics exams. His most recent Calisthenics Kingz signature product the “Total Body Ripper” (which is a resistance band for adding an edge to your body weight training routine) can be found on his website.

Above and beyond

The name “Calisthenics Kingz” has become synonymous with calisthenics, street workouts and body weight training. Around the world people are watching HIT’s youtube videos and using his fitness products to reach their health goals. From humble beginnings at his local calisthenics park in the Bronx, the sport has allowed HIT to travel to many countries – most notably Ukraine where the calisthenics street workout scene is HUGE, in part, thanks to street-workout athletes like Denis Minin and the thousands of Ukrainians dedicated to the calisthenics lifestyle.

Today Georege “HIT” Richards is still very active in the calisthenics community, which has grown so much since the early days. You can watch his youtube videos or follow him online where he continues to inspire. OR if you’re in New York, you can get calisthenics personal training classes from HIT Richards himself.

YOU are your biggest and best competitor. In challenging yourself, you can never lose. You can only better yourself. That’s why it is a win-win situation. In other words, we are challenging YOU to be the absolute best YOU can possible be.
